Matt Haig

Matt Haig (born 1975) is a critically acclaimed British author known for writing both fiction and non-fiction for adults and children. His work often blends speculative elements with deeply personal explorations of mental health, time, and the human condition. Haig has been particularly open about his own struggles with anxiety and depression, and this lived experience often informs the empathy and insight present in his writing.

Prior to the immense success of The Midnight Library, Haig gained widespread recognition for his memoir Reasons to Stay Alive (2016), which detailed his journey through a severe mental health crisis. His non-fiction work, Notes on a Nervous Planet (2018), continued this conversation, exploring how the modern world contributes to anxiety. His ability to tackle heavy subjects with warmth, humor, and a fundamentally hopeful perspective has made him a beloved and influential figure in contemporary literature.
