About the Author

Stephen Chbosky

Stephen Chbosky (born 1970) is an American novelist, screenwriter, and director. He is almost exclusively known for creating The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which was his debut novel. A graduate of the University of Southern California's prestigious screenwriting program, Chbosky wrote the novel drawing on his own teenage experiences and the universal struggles of adolescence.

Unusually, Chbosky also served as the screenwriter and director for the critically acclaimed 2012 film adaptation of his novel. This allowed him to maintain a remarkable fidelity to the book's tone and characters, ensuring the story’s authenticity transferred seamlessly to the screen. Although his bibliography is relatively small, the immense cultural impact of The Perks of Being a Wallflower has cemented his place as an important voice in modern coming-of-age literature and filmmaking.
